Special Trains In The Mother Lode This Weekend

The calendar will turn back to the year 1897 this weekend when Railtown Historic State Park in Jamestown holds an old fashion barbecue and special twilight steam train excursion Saturday.

Park superintendent Jim Stillwell says the tri-tip barbecue with all the trimmings, including chili beans, salads, desserts and beverages, starts at 5 p.m. and the vintage steam train leaves the Jamestown depot for a round trip journey to Chinese Station at 7 p.m.

The public is welcome to attend and ride the train. Tickets for the dinner and train ride are $20. Regular steam train excursions will be offered during the weekend, departing on the hour starting at 11 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

The Sierra Railroad will offer a special gourmet luncheon Golden Sunset Dinner Train Sunday departing from Sonora at The Junction shopping center. Contact the Golden Sunset Dinner Train depot in Oakdale for reservations and ticket prices.
