Californians cut their overall energy use by up to 14 percent last summer. Governor Davis´ office says energy use was cut by nearly seven percent overall, and savings reached 14 percent at one point in the summer. The Summer 2001 Conservation Report analyzes how California met its goals last summer for reducing peak electricity demand by five thousand megawatts. That was the anticipated electricity shortfall without the conservation efforts. Davis says the conservation efforts were helped by the quick use of a variety of programs, including consumer rebates, a statewide media campaign called Flex Your Power, and improved building and appliance energy efficiency standards.
