Memos Seem To Back Up Year-Old Enron Criticism

More than a year after California officials complained of schemes to drive up energy prices, newly-released documents detail Enron´s operations in the crisis. Politicians and Enron critics say the internal memos prove the energy company schemed to drive up electricity prices over a two-year period. Enron lawyers say they don´t know if the memos are accurate.
The leader of the Democratic majority in the U-S Senate, Tom Daschle of South Dakota, has been joined by other lawmakers including three California Republicans, in urging a Justice Department investigation. Hearings are to be held this week by two Senate committees as well as the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
