Farms Must Now Follow EPA Standards
California farms will no longer be exempt from air pollution regulations under a settlement reached yesterday between community groups and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
California Farm Bureau spokeswoman Cynthia Cory calls the decision disappointing because the EPA has not completed studies on how farm operations affect air quality.
The agreement requires the state to remove an exemption to the Clean Air Act for agriculture or face losing billions of dollars in federal highway funds.
Cory says at this point is isn´t clear if an appeal of the decision is possible.
