Wilderness Designation Could Severely Damage Area Economy

A new proposal from U-S Senator Barbara Boxer would severely restrict uses of federal lands in a large portion of the Mother Lode. Attorney Patrick Greenwell with the Tuolumne County Chamber of commerce says he´s still analyzing a copy of the bill, but one thing is already obvious: it will have a major economic impact.
The legislation has been drafted so far with no input from Mother Lode governments, residents or businesses. Greenwell says the Chamber has taken a stand opposing the bill, at least until it can be scrutinized, and some comments offered to Boxer and other lawmakers from California.
