Mother Lode Braces For Severe Fire Season

Sponsored by:

CDF officials are already saying this is not a normal fire year. Numerous fires are burning in the southern part of the state and dry conditions in the Tuolumne and Calaveras region are pointing to a potentially bad year, fire-wise.

They are cautiously optimistic, but indications are 2002 could be a severe fire season year.

CDF Battalion Chief Barry Rudolph says Mother Lode residents need to be aware this summer´s fire season will likely be, at minimum, on par with last year. Homeowners can help firefighters efforts by providing defensible space around their homes which protect their property and, at the same time, help give firefighters safe access in the area to fight a blaze.

For information on making your home fire safe this season, contact your local CDF fire station.
