National Transportation Safety board investigators will be in Walker today, investigating yesterday´s air tanker crash. The Forest Service plane went down as it was fighting the wildfire that´s been raging there since the weekend. Walker is located about 62 miles northeast of Sonora.
A witness says the plane´s wings broke off just after a retardant drop, and the fuselage spiraled into the ground. Three crew members were killed. The fire started by the crash briefly threatened about 10 buildings in the area.
Firefighters say the 10 thousand acre main blaze is about 10% contained.
