Tower Regs On Hold Again

Sponsored by:

Tuolumne County Supervisors are inching closer to adopting proposed rules for telecommunications towers in the county.

If adopted, the rules would regulate where those towers can be placed. Many residents have said they don´t want the towers near their homes because they€™re eyesores and could pose health risks.

The regulations would require a company that builds a tower to make a minimum deposit of $5,000 to the county in case the county ever had to maintain or remove the structure. Supervisors also want to encourage companies to share towers, when possible. Officials are trying to create an environment where adequate telecommunications coverage can be achieved without taking away from the natural beauty of the area.

The proposed rules have been put on hold many times. Another public hearing will be held before Supes would adopt the rules.
