An increase in Angels Camp´s so-called Transient Occupancy Tax will now go to the voters to decide.
The Angels Camp City counsel and the Calaveras County Visitors Bureau recently reached the agreement to raise the T-O-T from 6 percent to 10 percent.
The tax is levied on overnight visitors who stay at the city´s motels and inns. The present 6 percent will continue to go directly to the city´s general fund.
If approved, the additional 4 percent would be divided equally for tourism promotion, emergency services and road maintenance. An election will be held by mail, and ballots returned to the county elections office by May 6. The measure requires two-thirds approval for passage.
