Applegate Applauds Passage Of “Measure I” After Release Of General Report

Sonora, CA — Sonora City Administrator Greg Applegate says the economic health of the city is looking up following the release of the city´s annual report for fiscal 2004.
Applegate cites the passage of Measure I as a significant factor. That measure instituted a half cent sales tax for police and fire protection as well as public works. He calls the passage a “gigantic leap forward” for the city.
The city is now in the process of hiring five more police officers, three more firefighters and two publics works personnel.
Applegate says Sonora is also raising salaries and benefits of city employees to curb what he calls the “transiency factor,” which is the loss of municipal workers to larger cities.
