Crews Still Cleaning Up Diesel Spill Behind Mervyn’s
Sonora, CA — The road behind Mervyn´s in Sonora is closed due to a large diesel spill that happened Tuesday.
The Sonora Police Department says several local government agencies were called out to clean up more than 450 gallons of diesel fuel that spilled Tuesday afternoon.
The Department says the fuel spilled behind Mervyn´s when a large diesel container was being off loaded from a trailer. During the off loading process, police say the container fell off the trailer, landing on its side.
Because of the large amount of diesel that soaked into the ground and through the pavement, a hazardous materials team was called in from Livermore.
The road behind Mervyn´s is expected to be closed for the next several days, while crews remove the contaminated soil and haul it to Stockton.
