Stockton, CA — Selling cheap gas has a Stockton man facing possible jail time.
Police say Joseph Marchbanks was selling gas for $1.50 a gallon from a makeshift filling station behind his home.
But according to police, the gas wasn´t his to sell. Officers took Marchbanks into custody early yesterday morning outside a gas station.
They found him with an electric pump and a long tube he used to siphon gas into plastic containers.
Authorities also say they also found a 750-gallon plastic storage container hidden in a carport outside his townhouse.
Marchbanks is suspected of stealing hundreds of gallons of gasoline from underground storage tanks throughout Stockton and then selling the fuel from the makeshift filling station behind his home.
