Stem Cell HQ To Be Built In San Francisco
San Francisco, CA — San Francisco beat out San Diego, Sacramento and Emeryville for the location of the Stem Cell Head Quarters.
The stem cell institute was created in November after voters overwhelmingly approved a measure allowing California to borrow $3 billion to fund human embryonic stem cell research over ten years.
The institute plans to build at least a 17-thousand-square-foot office with a maximum of 50 employees.
No actual stem cell research is planned at the headquarters; however civic boosters said winning it will give the successful city a big dose of scientific and marketing prestige that can be used to lure biotechnology companies to settle nearby.
