Federal Express Jet Rains Debris On Bay Area Neighborhood

Sponsored by:

Danville, CA — No injuries are reported after a Bay Area neighborhood was showered with airplane parts last night.

A Federal Express MD-11 jet dropped several pieces of aluminum cowling from one of its engines shortly after takeoff from Oakland International Airport.

Some of the pieces that fell on backyards and rooftops in the Danville area were as large as 4 by 7 feet. The FedEx crew was apparently unaware of any problem and the plane landed safely as scheduled at Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport.

The plane parts were collected by FedEx investigators and taken to the Oakland facility.

FedEx and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the incident.
