Students Settle Civil Rights Case Against School And Police
San Francisco, CA — A civil rights group announced Wednesday the settlement of a lawsuit brought by students who were illegally rounded up by authorities at a Union City high school three years ago.
The students were subject to body and property searches to crack down on gang violence.
As many as 60 students, most of them Asians or Hispanics, were herded into two classrooms during lunch at James Logan High three years ago.
Their photos were taken by police who also questioned them about gang membership.
No arrests were made during the roundup. Despite the settlement, neither the school district nor the Union City Police Department admitted wrongdoing.
