Changes In Store For Chinese Camp Mill

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Representatives from Sierra Pacific Industries spoke to the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors Tuesday in hopes of dispelling any rumors about the Chinese Camp Mill.

COO and Vice President George Emerson said the mill is in the company´s long term plans, noting that they plan to convert the facility into a cedar fencing mill. He says it will basically be a cross between a saw mill and a manufacturing facility. They plan to continue to employ the same amount of people.

Emerson noted that Sierra Pacific plans to invest several million dollars to make the transition. He says the cedar fencing mill will allow the company to capitalize on more of a niche market.

Emerson also emphasized that the company is committed to staying in California.
