Castle and Cooke Looks To Add More To Copperopolis

Copperopolis, CA — Castle and Cooke Calaveras is asking Calaveras County to amend its General Plan for two proposed projects in Copperopolis.

Sawmill Lake would take up 245 acres next to the current Town Square project on Little John Road. There would be 600 residences, a performing arts theatre, and a fitness club.

Copper Valley Ranch would sit on 4,350 acres on the north shore of Lake Tulloch. Once complete it would total 1,500 homes and have a lake club, marina, inn, and a neighborhood shopping center.

Castle and Cooke Vice President Dave Haley says he wants to coincide the environmental work for these projects with a larger environmental review for the entire community via the community plan. Haley says larger issues such as traffic and water could be resolved there.

Haley hopes to have approvals by the end of 2007.
