Sacramento, CA -- California college students will be receiving an unexpected gift from the state this year.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to eliminate an anticipated 8% fee increase for undergraduate students in his proposed budget to be released early next month. The administration says increased state revenues will cover the expenses of the University of California and California State University campuses this year.
Regents from both universities agreed to the fee increase in exchange for a minimum level of funding guaranteed by the governor's office.
The deal would have required tuition increases over the next six years. Instead, the Schwarzenegger administration plans to put up just over $141 million to offset the planned fee increases.
