CHP Officer Struck While Responding To Vehicle Accident
Jamestown, CA — A CHP Officer is hospitalized in stable condition after being struck by a vehicle last night on Highway 49.
CHP says 45-year-old Officer Michael Remmel of Jamestown had responded to the scene at Highway 49 and Parrots Ferry Road where a previous collision had occurred.
A report indicates that Remmel was assisting a tow operator in removing one of the involved vehicles from the shoulder of the roadway just before 7:00.
Investigators say Remmel and the tow truck were about 10 feet off of the shoulder when a vehicle driven by 79-year-old Bernice Martinez of Avery approached at an unknown speed, drifted off the road and struck the officer and the tow truck .
Officers say the impact knocked Remmel 15 to 20 feet into the air and caused major trauma to his legs. Martinez suffered major injury to her leg and hip from the collision.
Remmel was flown to Doctor´s Medical Center in Modesto while Martinez was transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center.
None of the injuries are life threatening.
