Big Meadow Fire Surpasses 7,000 Acre Mark

Yosemite National Park, CA — The Big Meadow Fire has now burned 7,240 acres with containment listed at 70 percent. 

1,282 firefighters are on site today of the nine day old fire which started as a prescribed burn Wednesday, August 26. Five minor injuries have been reported.

Total resources for today’s effort include 32 hand crews, eight dozers, 94 engines, 19 water tenders, four helicopters and six air tankers. The cost of fighting this fire to date is $10.8 million. 

There has been no change in the previously announced road and campground closures.

100 percent containment has been scheduled for next Thursday.

A fire information meeting is scheduled for this evening at 6:30 at Tenaya Elementary School.
