Mid-July Weekend Events

As the heat creeps up in to triple digits this weekend here is a rundown of upcoming events planned in the Mother Lode.

Friday the Sonora Library is one place to keep cool, and from 10:30 a.m to 11:30 a.m. the Paws to Read Library Program for Children will encourage even the most reluctant reader to read aloud to a specially trained furry companion.

Friday afternoon at the Maker’s Space at the Sonora Inn Austin Broder is offering a Free Animation Class.

Friday evening is the weekly Angels Camp Certified Farmers Market and Saturday morning is the Sonora Certified Farmer’s Market.

Saturday the Christian Heights Church will host the Family Ninja Warrior Challenge from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All age groups are invited to enjoy the giant obstacle course competition and games for free. The event features their Bounce Houses and Giant Slide. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. and it is first come-first served.

Oysters & Oinkers, the major annual booster event for the Brett Harte FFA (Futures Farmers of America), will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Broglio Ranch in Angels Camp. Brett Harte FFA Advisor Carrie Phillips was interviewed for Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day” as detailed here.

This Saturday at 6 p.m. is the Twain Harte Area Chamber of Commerce Concerts in the Pines.

Sierra Repertory Theater in East Sonora is performing “I Love You, You’re Perfect Now Change” and in Columbia at the Fallon House is showing “The Wizard of Oz”. It is the last weekend for “Moon Over Buffalo” performed by Murphys Creek Theater.  Opening weekend was last week for “Deadwood Dick” and performances continue Friday and weekends at Tuolumne City Live all this month.

Next weekend the Westside Pavilion concert is Pat Benatar & Neil Geraldo with Melissa Etheridge on July 21st as reported here and Billy Idol performs at Ironstone July 20th.
