Westside Pavilion Concerts Bring New Visitors To Tuolumne County

One of the benefits of hosting major headlining concerts in Tuolumne County, is the number of first time visitors that each show brings.

BJ Nelson, Executive Director of Operations for Black Oak Casino Resort, was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

“With every show that takes place at Westside Pavilion, I ask several of the ticket buyers where they are from and if they have ever visited Tuolumne or Tuolumne County before,” said Nelson. “A very large number of those attendees tell me that they have never been up here before.”

According to Nelson, not only is there an immediate economic benefit to Tuolumne County with every single show (lodging, restaurants, shopping, etc.) but Tuolumne County also benefits from first time visitors who will use their word-of-mouth and social media to let friends and family know what a great time they had while in the area. Those same people will likely make future plans to return.

Nelson points out that most of the attendees travel to the concerts from the Central Valley and the Bay area (mostly South Bay).

“I credit Westside Pavilion with introducing a new type of business to this area,” said Nelson. “Our visitors are used to ride sharing services (such as Uber and Lyft) where they live and one of things that caught our attention last year, was that Uber drivers began showing up on our property after the shows to pick up the clients who ordered them”.

Westside Pavilion holds around 6,000 attendees and for the first time every, there may be a sellout later this week.

“The Snoop Dogg show with the Isley Brother, Warren G and Karupt is really close to selling out,” said Nelson. “There are still some tickets left for the show this Saturday July 6th, but not very many.”

On Friday night July 5th, country artist Chris Young will perform with Lindsay Ell.

Other shows this season include Pat Benatar & Neil Geraldo with Melissa Etheridge on July 21st. Pitbull has rescheduled and will perform on August 4th. Bush and LIVE both perform on August 9th. Country artist Brantley Gilbert performs August 16th. Bad Company headlines on September 1st. Peter Frampton will hold one of his final concerts at Westside Pavilion on October 6th and classic rockers Foreigner will wrap up the season on October 12th.
