Local School Officials Await Budget Cuts

Motherlode schools are waiting to see the extent of proposed cutbacks in education programs as lawmakers in Sacramento try to come up with an answer to those concerns.

State legislators are attempting to overcome a 12 billion dollar budget shortfall this year. According to Robert Gaskill of the Sonora Union High School District, many programs either in place or slated to begin soon may have to be pared back to fit the reduced budget. The debate on school funding is expected to continue for the next few months.
