Sierra Pacific To Sell Redwood Forest
A timber company has agreed to transfer about 170 acres of redwood forest in Humboldt County into public ownership.
The land currently owned by Sierra Pacific Industries, which also owns two saw mills in the Sonora and Chinese Camp areas of the Mother Lode, is set to transfer the parcel into the public domain to help appease the concerns of residents in the nearby community of Sunnybrae.
Residents were concerned about the effect logging would have on their community.
The details of the sale are still pending, and it´s unclear if the land will be managed by a local, state or federal government agency.
Sierra Pacific received approval for its plan to log the land, but hasn´t started.
