School District Wants To Save Janitor Service
School trustees at Goleta were given a presentation by a teacher on why janitor hours shouldn´t be cut in the district budget.
Teacher Mark Casady from Foothill Elementary School showed the trustees a plastic bag of debris collected on his classroom floor. It included cockroaches, mice feces and dirt, and Casady told the school trustees: “I think there might only be one live cockroach in there.”
Rather than try to cut $420,000 from the schools´ budget by a proposed reduction in janitor hours and other services, Casady said Wednesday that closing a school would be a better option for the district with declining enrollment. That would save the Goleta district an estimated $600,000.
