Massive Water Deal Under Consideration
State water regulators today begin considering what would be the nation´s largest-ever transfer of farm irrigation water to urban customers.
The proposal affects not just the future of San Diego and Imperial Valley farmers, but of an agreement between seven states over coveted Colorado River water.
The San Diego County Water Authority wants to buy water that now goes to Imperial Valley´s farm belt. San Diego needs the water to replace what it would no longer be allowed to take from the Colorado River.
