A strong geomagnetic storm is expected to hit the Earth sometime today — with the potential to disrupt electrical grids and satellite communications.
The storm was produced by a disturbance in the sun similar to a solar flare. And forecasters say it ranks fairly high on their geomagnetic-storm scale. They say more such storms could be coming over the next two weeks.
