UC Students Won’t Go To China This Summer
University of California students who planned to study in Beijing this summer will have to make other plans. University officials today announced the continued suspension of the Beijing Education Abroad Program due to concerns over severe
acute respiratory syndrome. The decision affects 130 students systemwide. Officials say although no U.C. students have been diagnosed with the illness, concern for their safety in light of the continued spread of SARS prompted the university´s action. Last month, the university ordered 44 of its students attending
classes at two Beijing universities to leave China immediately due to fears over the spread of the illness. The director of the Education Abroad Program says the Beijing program should reopen in the fall.
