Sponsored by:

The Calaveras County Sheriff´s Department says a man riding a bicycle in unfavorable conditions Saturday had to be rescued when he didn´t show up when expected.

Paul McKenzie, of Murphys, intended to ride his bike through Sheep Ranch, Railroad Flat, and Dorrington, but got lost on Summit Level Road due to heavy snow conditions occurring at the time. Officials were contacted about McKenzie´s disappearance Saturday night, and the Calaveras County Volunteer Search and Rescue Team began their search for him on snowmobiles and snowshoes.

McKenzie was found near forest road 6N02, outside Dorrington. He´d suffered minor exposure-related injuries and was taken to Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital for treatment.

The Calaveras County Search and Rescue team is also accepting applications for volunteers. Contact the Calaveras County Sheriff´s Department for more information. No experience is necessary, however a desire to serve the community and team work are helpful.
