Arnold, CA — A special day just for families is being held at Calaveras Big Trees State Park Saturday.
The Calaveras Big Trees Association says it puts on the annual event to give something back to the community.
The association is a non-profit group, which provides interpretation and environmental education programs for the park.
Former park interpreter Wendy Harrison started Family Day in 1989. The association usually breaks even by hosting the event.
With the price of admission children can meet Smokey the Bear, go on a nature walk and learn about the Miwok Indians.
Activities are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Shuttles are available at the Chapel of the Pines in Arnold.
For more information, contact the association at (209) 795-3840.
