Calaveras Science Fair Awards

San Andreas, CA — Calaveras County students in grades four through twelve participated in the 29th Annual Countywide Science Fair. Held on Saturday, March 15th, students who were recommended by their school, or who have won at their school’s Science Fair, competed.

Winners were chosen based on creativity, scientific thought, skill, clarity, and the student’s interview. Approximately 60 projects and 12 volunteer judges were involved in this year’s Science Fair.

The fourth grade 1st place winner was Sami McClell and Sommer Good with a Solar vs. Wild project. Both are from Hazel Fischer Elementary.

The fifth grade 1st place winner and Grand prize winner was Jacob Black for “3 Days to Live” from Valley Springs Elementary.

The sixth Grade winner was Gabriella Malemed for “We Love That Basketball” She is from Valley Springs Elementary.

The seventh grade winner was Stephanie Cudney with “Earthworms” she is from Mountain Oaks Charter School.

The eight grade winner and Best Earth Science project from the Christian Family Learning Center was Brianna Navas, with “Ready, Set, Grow”

The High School winner and Best Physical Science project winner was Freshman Alex Woodside with “How Temperature Impacts Lego®” from Mountain Oaks Charter School.

The sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth grade winners are eligible to compete in the State Science Fair at the California Science Center in Los Angeles on April 28 – 29, 2014.
