Botched Security At SFO

Sponsored by:

A San Francisco International Airport spokesman says proper procedures were not followed this morning when security screeners detected explosive residue on a man´s shoes. Ron Wilson says the screener should have held on to the man´s brown loafers or kept an eye on the man. Instead, the screener went to a supervisor.

In the meantime, the man put on his shoes and walked away. The residue was detected during a random check in the United terminal at 6:35 a-m. The terminal was shut down an hour later after United searched in vain for the man.

The material is similar to a plastic explosive, but has the same signature as common fertilizer.

Wilson says the man, who was dressed as a business traveler, may have simply walked over a lawn on his way to SFO. Flights are now back on schedule.
