EPA Drops Plan For Asbestos Panel
Sacramento, CA — The U-S Environmental Protection Agency has dropped plans to create a panel of experts to review the health effects of naturally occurring asbestos in the foothills of El Dorado County.
EPA officials had promised to conduct the research and create the panel at a meeting of foothills residents last May.
The EPA´s Keith Takata says his agency has instead decided to conduct a series of risk assessment tests to determine the effects of long-term exposure naturally occurring asbestos.
That decision came after EPA administrator Steve Johnson questioned the effectiveness of an independent scientific review limited to a single community.
