Off Duty Officer Chases Down MiWuk Burglar

MiWuk, CA — Brandon Jacob Avilla of MiWuk was taken to Tuolumne County Jail last night after he was caught trying to break into a vehicle.
Late in the evening, a MiWuk resident reported that two individuals were in the process of the crime. While deputies were heading to the scene, an off duty Modesto police officer chased one of the suspects by foot. He was able to catch Avilla. The second suspect escaped.
A methamphetamine smoking pipe was later found in Avilla´s possession. Investigation at the scene indicates that Avilla has been involved in a series of other burglaries in the area.
