Caltrans Plans Beginning Nov. 27

Sonora, CA — While it will be a full week for Caltrans work crews only a few are assigned to Mother Lode roads.

In fact, the only two cone zones planned are on Highway 120. As reported here, the Highway 120 James E Robert Bridge by Lake Don Pedro remains a focus point. Over the next two weeks final odds and ends will be attended to along with the rollout of the polyester surfacing across the span.

This latter step was placed on hold two weeks ago due to inclement weather since the surfacing requires a stretch of dry days with seasonable weather in order to cure. Caltrans officials are still looking at a Dec. 15 completion date at which time the 24/7 automated traffic controls on either side of the bridge will be removed, ending the ten-minute travel waits.

Motorists should also anticipate ten-minute delays on Highway 120 every weekday during crack sealing repairs being made to pavement along a stretch between Old Highway 120 and Packard Canyon Road. Hours for this work zone will run from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

While the decision has already been made to let the Highway 108 Sonora Pass remain closed for the season, Caltrans officials will be assessing Highway 4 Ebbetts Pass early this week to determine if it may yet reopen. Yosemite National Park officials, who manage the Highway 120 Tioga Pass, have similarly indicated that they will be assessing that route after the holiday weekend.
