Arrested For DUI, But Not At Fault For Crash

San Andreas, CA – A two-vehicle crash on Highway 49 was not the result of the man driving under the influence, according to the CHP – instead it was failure to yield.

The wreck happened yesterday around 4:30 p.m. at the junction of Highway 49 and 12 in San Andreas. The CHP reports that 17-year-old Corinne Bach of West point failed to yield when attempting to turn left onto Highway 49. Driving a 1988 Toyota sedan Bach smashed into a 1995 Honda sedan driven by 22-year-old Michael Nelson heading toward Valley Springs.

CHP officer Toby Butzler states, “During the investigation of the crash, Nelson was evaluated by the officer on scene as well as by what’s called a drug recognition expert or specialty trained officer. He was determined to be under the influence of a controlled substance. So, he didn’t cause the incident, however, he was still driving under the influence and arrested.”

The wreckage blocked the roadway for about 20 minutes as tow crews worked to remove the debris.
