A bill allowing two million illegal immigrants in California to get legal drivers licenses is headed to the desk of Governor Davis.
The state Senate today approved changes made to the bill yesterday when it passed the Assembly. Davis says he will sign the bill, which reveals the deep political rifts over illegal immigration in California.
Supporters of the bill say it recognizes the reality of people who are already driving – and will make the highways safer. Opponents say it rewards people who are breaking the law by living in California – and believe it will make it easier for terrorists to get drivers licenses.
