TOT Tax Hike To Hit November Ballot

Sponsored by:

Look for the Transient Occupancy Tax hike proposal to be on this November´s ballot.

During last night´s Sonora City Council session, council members voted four to one to let the voters decide on the tax hike measure.

Council Member David Sheppard voted against the proposal, saying he didn´t want to support another tax hike, and that with more people staying in Mother Lode hotels and motels, the TOT revenue has gone up without a tax increase.

But the majority of the council members wanted to let the voters make the decision on whether or not to increase the tourist tax from eight to nine percent.
