PreventT2 – A program for people with prediabetes

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA – Adventist Health Sonora is offering “PreventT2,” a program designed to help people with prediabetes prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes. PreventT2, part of the National Diabetes Prevention Program, is led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and proven to help individuals improve food choices, increase physical activity, lose weight and succeed in making long-lasting changes leading to better health outcomes.

As many as one in three people with prediabetes will develop type 2 diabetes within five years, leading to devastating health problems such as heart attack; stroke; blindness; kidney failure; and loss of toes, feet or legs. Fortunately, prediabetes does not have to lead to type 2 diabetes. With the right strategy, risk factors for type 2 diabetes can be reduced, effectively preventing the disease.

With the goal of reducing the diagnosis of diabetes by over 50 percent in our community, PreventT2 is open to anyone 18 years of age or older who meets the following criteria:

  • Available to attend most of the 25 meetings throughout the year
  • Body mass index over 24.0 kg/m2
  • Recent blood test indicating prediabetes
  • Or screens positive for prediabetes by taking this screening test: https://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/prevention/pdf/prediabetestest.pdf

PreventT2 is provided by the Diabetes Resource Center at Adventist Health Sonora and will begin in January. A physician referral is not required but is recommended. Enrollment is limited. For more information, please call 209-536-3720 or visit www.adventisthealthsonora.org/diabetes-care.
