On Wednesday July 2nd, 2025, 7pm- “A Forest Service Celebration” will take place, at the Pinecrest Ampitheater, at Pinecrest Lake, California. Presented by the Forest Service Balladeers- (aka members of the Black Irish Band). Members Patrick Michael Karnahan, James Dean Nelson, and Kris Osward, will perform music and tell stories of how and why the Forest Service was created in 1905, and how important it was to have an agency that would protect the forest resources of America, and manage that valuable resource for future generations to enjoy.

It was on July 2nd, 2005- that the Forest Service Balladeers first performed the very same historic program at the Kennedy Center, in Washington D.C., sponsored by the Smithsonian Museum. The concert was part of the two-week celebration of the creation of the forest service in 1905. The leader of the group, Patrick Michael Karnahan, has worked 22- seasons with the agency in the past, and thought it would be nice to showcase songs and stories that would make Forest Service History more interesting and entertaining to everyone when presented in a campfire style performance.

As a special tribute that night, wildland firefighters will be honored with the band’s performance of “Into the Fire”, which was written by Patrick Michael Karnahan for the 100th year celebration of the USFS, in Washington D.C. in 2005. The band will also perform the popular children’s favorite song, -“Smokey Bear”.

The program is free to the public and starts at 7pm- (program sponsored by the 3- Forest interpretive Assn.)
