Motorcycle Chase Suspects Sought

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The CHP reports officers end a recent high-speed motorcycle chase along two heavily traveled roadways in Sonora as the pursuit was heading right towards Summerville High School.

CHP officer Michael McDaniel first spotted the Yamaha Sport bike on Highway 108 going in excess of 80 mph on Monday around 4 p.m. He took off after the motorcycle, trying to pull it over when it exited on Phoenix Lake Road. The male driver with a female passenger then passed a sedan on the right shoulder and proceeded to turn right onto Hess Avenue. “The motorcycle traveled at high speeds down Hess Avenue until it got to Tuolumne Road,” Officer McDaniel continues, “It made a left heading eastbound, traveling at speeds between 65 and 80 mph. The pursuit was terminated for safety reasons.”

McDaniel explained the various reasons, stating, “The fact that Tuolumne Road is a highly traveled road, also the fact that there was a passenger on the bike and we were approaching Summerville. Given that time of day, there should not have been any students there but we always try to err on the side of caution.”

Later that afternoon, Mi-Wuk Band of Indians Tribal Security located the bike off Cherokee Road. A records check determined the motorcycle was stolen out of Modesto. McDaniel indicates that the two suspects are known to law enforcement, but investigators are not disclosing their identities or any further information at this time.  If caught the two could face felony evading a peace officer and possession of a stolen motorcycle charges.
