El Portal, CA — A popular route into Yosemite National Park will be closed for at least a week because of a rockfall.
Authorities closed Highway 140 about 12 miles outside the park Monday. Officials say a geologist will survey the land. Boulders and trees need to be removed before the road can be reopened.
The park still can be accessed by Highway 41 and Highway 120 from the west.
Rockfalls are a natural occurrence in the park where granite cliffs rise some 3,000 feet above the valley floor.
