Pedro Talks Budget With Tuolumne County Supervisors

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The 2009/10 Tuolumne County budget took center stage during this morning’s supervisorial meeting.

CAO Craig Pedro addressed the state taking eight percent of the property tax revenues from the county, the city (Sonora) and special districts. His staff has estimated the county will lose $2.6 million from its General Fund and $200,000 from the Fire Fund. By law the state must repay the counties, cities and special districts with interest within a period of three years.

Pedro also commented that while the state backed off from pirating gas tax revenues fearing legal action, Sacramento is still holding onto those monies and may do so for the forseeable future.

Among other items Pedro is recommending that the Board eliminate the Columbia, Jamestown and Southern Tuolumne County planning commissions because of work load duplication.

The final budget hearing is scheduled for August 25.
