AAUW Annual Home Tour

Sponsored by:

The annual American Association of University Women (AAUW) of Sonora present the annual Home Tour this Saturday, with four homes to look at in Tuolumne County.

Betsy Hurst-Younger, Sonora Branch AAUW member, was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the the Day”.

AAUW California was launched in San Francisco in 1886. The Sonora Branch was chartered in 1961.

According to Hurst-Younger, “We are actively seeking new members and welcome your inquiries. We present programs throughout the year addressing the issues of equity for women as well as social programs. Come join us.”

Each year the Sonora Branch AAUW puts on a home tour to view exceptional homes in Tuolumne County. The tickets sell for $25.00 and there is a opportunity drawing, which is held at Church of the 49ers. There is also refreshments, a tea and a boutique. The proceeds go towards scholarships for local girls.

The home tours will run from noon through 4 PM.

The four homes (that you must have a ticket for in order to view) include:

Old Bridge Rd., Jamestown
Located in the new Boulders gated community in Jamestown, this home is completely energy efficient. It has underground geothermal energy, solar panels on the roof, closed cell foam insulation, 3D Max Milgard windows and all LED lighting. This “home of the future” is also cozy and comfortable. In addition, there is a Doll Museum casita in the backyard that houses hand-made and antique dolls from many eras.

Old Wards Ferry Rd., Sonora
After passing under the arch, old farm equipment leads you to the large ranch house. Notice the cowboy and cowgirl standing guard at the entrance to the spacious wrap-around porch. Upon entering the front door, you’ll see the family brand inlaid into the floor. Many reminders of this long-time Tuolumne County family are seen throughout the house from saddles and ropes to framed pictures. The etched doors in the spacious kitchen depict their high-country cabin area. There’s even an elevator that takes you down to the rumpus room. The property also features a guest house.

Red Chestnut Ln (Sonora Hills)
This lovely home on a cul-de-sac has been a labor of love for the homeowner. It has been redecorated with warm, bright colors and furniture that was carefully chosen to enhance the home’s cozy interior. The cheerful kitchen has red accents and the turquoise paintings in the dining room create a lovely background for dining. Her patio is perfect for year-round parties.

Gibbs Dr., Sonora
Once you enter this tri-level home you are amazed at the light provided by the two-story living room windows. The kitchen is a modern cook’s delight and at its center is a huge farm table with bolster seat. Notice the modern touches of sliding barn doors on closets and bathrooms. l has a craft room, complete with many cupboards for supplies. There is a basement room and there’s a wonderful room with comfortable seating for all. The lovely decks look out over Sonora.

Tea, Refreshments, Holiday Boutique, and a Basket Raffle will take place inside of Faith Hall at the Church of the 49ers in Columbia, from noon through 5 pm. The Holiday Boutique offers homemade baked goods, crafts and unique holiday items suitable for gift giving−all donated by the members. The door prize is a beautiful floral arrangement.
