Lost Hiker Near Hetch Hetchy In Yosemite

Sponsored by:

Hetch Hetchy, CA — A 51-year-old man known as an experienced hiker is missing near the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir in Yosemite.

Michael Ficery was hiking alone and was last seen by park officials on June 15th.

According to Adrienne Freeman Park Ranger with the Yosemite National Park at the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir he was following a trail that goes around the north end of the reservoir, and then changed plans and headed up to the Pacific Crest Trail.

Family members were concerned when Ficery did not return home after his wilderness permit expired on Sunday. A search was initiated on Tuesday when his family called the park service and Wednesday his backpack was found in the park, which prompted a full-scale search.

Freeman says they are using helicopters, dog teams, at least 5 other counties search and rescue teams, including the Tuolumne County team.

Anyone with information or questions is asked to call the Hetch Hetchy Ranger Station at (209) 379-1928.
