How does obesity affect lung function?

Those who are obese have a higher risk of asthma and obese asthmatics do worse than those who are normal weight. In those with significant levels of obesity, the cost of breathing is high. Obesity increases the exertion of breathing, using more oxygen for the muscles involved with respiration and depleting oxygen from the rest of the body, putting patients at higher risk for developing other illnesses.
