Public Comments Sought From OHV Enthusiasts

Sonora, CA — A public comment period is about to get underway for those interested in providing input for off-highway vehicle conditions across Mother Lode forestlands.

Stanislaus National Forest officials say a comment period that will begin Tuesday and extend through May 6 is slated as part of the preliminary process for 2020 off-highway vehicle grant considerations. Already, forest recreation specialists and OHV managers have completed two draft grants for the California State Parks Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division (OHMVR).

The proposals include a forest-wide operations and maintenance project for OHV trails and facilities and a forest-wide law enforcement patrol project. Officials say the funding opportunities are integral to the ongoing success of the forest’s OHV program.

“These grants are vital for a successful OHV program on the forest,” states Stanislaus National Forest spokesperson Beth Martinez. “Equally important is input from the OHV community that enjoys off-highway recreation — their input on the program helps us provide quality recreation.”

Martinez says that links and information on how to provide public comments will be posted Tuesday after that component of the California Parks and Recreation OHMVR page becomes active.

Application results and intent to award notifications are expected to be provided Aug. 5 with final award postings Sept. 5 on the OHMVR Division website.
