Wet Roads Creating Difficult Driving Conditions
Sonora, CA — The CHP is encouraging everyone to use extra caution on the roads over the coming days due to the foothill rain and high country snow.
This morning there has been one notable crash in Tuolumne County. The CHP reports that it involved two vehicles near the bridge on O’Byrnes Ferry Road. Thankfully, no significant injuries were reported. Traffic was getting backed up in the area earlier this morning during the six o’clock hour.
Speaking in a general sense, Officer Faustino Pulido says, “Most crashes result in driving too fast, so the first and foremost tip is to just slow down. It is a simple matter of physics that your vehicle cannot stop as fast, or turn as accurately, on wet or icy pavement. Prepare for potential inclement weather by leaving early and allowing plenty of time to get where you are going. Also, make sure your gas tank is full and leave ample distance between your vehicle and the one ahead.”
If you plan on going to the high country, Pulido adds, “You will need to bring tire chains and chain tighteners. Bring warm waterproof clothes, items that can be used for flares, flashlights, batteries, drinking water and snacks.”
