As liquid fats solidify in pipes, creating clogs, avoid pouring fats or vegetable cooking oils down the drain. Wait for the grease to cool, then scrape it into a container with a tight-fitting lid; let it solidify in the refrigerator and then dispose of the container.
Hard-to-grind items are not good candidates for the garbage disposal and should be thrown away instead. As it turns out, many holiday meal ingredients fall into this category; including poultry skins, egg shells, carrots, celery, pumpkin pulp, and potato skins, along with banana peels and pasta.
