Hwy 108 Fire Safe Council Meeting Set For June 5
Sonora, CA — A Hwy 108 Fire Safe Council meeting for residents of the Tuolumne area has been scheduled for 6:30pm, June 5 at the Tuolumne Veterans´ Memorial Hall at Pine Street and Fair Avenue in Tuolumne.
The purpose of every Hwy 108 Fire Safe Council meeting is to provide private landowners and local fire agency officials the opportunity to discuss and consider a strategic planning link between local fire protection, emergency access and community fire prevention measures that support firefighting efforts. The subject area consists of public, Me-Wuk tribal and private land accessed by Tuolumne Road North.
Thursday´s meeting will feature a program focused on the important role fire plays in reducing flammable fuels and maintaining the ecological balance of landscapes within Yosemite National Park.
Additionally the presentation will cover key aspects of the Park´s fuels management program and close coordination with other agencies. Agency officials will be present to discuss community fire awareness, defensible space accomplishments and opportunities for private land projects that enhance coordinated multi-agency fuel break construction and maintenance efforts.
During the second half of the program the Fire Safe Council will listen and discuss ideas and comments from residents in the communities of Tuolumne Rancheria, Ponderosa Hills, Tuolumne City and surrounding areas. The discussion is intended to help fire agencies better identify the existing wildland fire danger present on public lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the U.S. Forest Service, tribal lands administered by the Tuolumne Me-Wuk and adjacent private property located within the County and State Responsibility Area protected by the Tuolummne County Fire Department and CAL Fire.
